How to Log Reading Minutes
We are using Beanstack to track and log reading minutes as well as earn activity badges. Logging 900 minutes or more during challenge timeframe qualifies a reader to receive a certificate of completion and be entered into prize drawings.
Click here for Beanstack login instructions for HIDOE students and staff.
Non-HIDOE students and families may also participate. Click here for instructions on how to create an account and log minutes.
Everyone is also encouraged to connect your HIDOE Beanstack account to your Hawaii State Public Libraries Beanstack account so your logged minutes count for both challenges. Click here to learn how to connect your accounts. Click here for a quick video overview.
How to Find eBooks
HIDOE students and staff have access to thousands of eBooks, audiobooks, read-alongs, magazines and comics in the shared collection, chosen collaboratively by school librarians across the state of Hawaii. Click here to login or download the Sora app.

A Note on Usernames
Students currently enrolled in Hawaiʻi Department of Education (HIDOE) public schools have a 10-digit student ID number issued by HIDOE. This number is known to most students in grades 2 and up and can be found on the studentʻs progress report or by phoning the school. This 10-digit student ID number functions as the username for students who wish to borrow books from the shared eBook collection through Sora and as the username for students who log reading minutes or engage in literacy activities in #808Reads or in the Beanstack app.
Anyone not currently enrolled as a student in a HIDOE public school can still join the Beanstack challenge through the Administration and Community site by creating their own username and password.
Students who read and log 900 minutes or more will receive a certificate and be eligible to win additional prizes.
Anyone not currently enrolled as a student in a HIDOE public school can also gain access to the reading materials at Sora by emailing 808libraries@k12.hi.us with the childʻs name and grade level. We will reply with a username that will work through July 31, 2026 to access thousands of eBooks, comics, audiobooks, and Read-Alongs.
